Begin by placing the butternut squash into the basket of the air fryer, then lightly mist it with olive oil spray.
Set the air fryer to 340°F and cook for 20 to 23 minutes*, giving the basket a shake a couple of times during cooking until the squash is tender enough to pierce with a fork and has a beautiful golden color.
In the meantime, take a small bowl and mix together the onion powder, garlic powder, sweet paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and brown sugar, if you choose to include it.
Once the squash reaches the desired tenderness, drizzle some olive oil over it and toss to coat evenly.
Sprinkle the prepared spice blend over the squash and gently mix to ensure an even coating; allow it to cook for an additional 3 to 4 minutes. Serve while hot.
