Ingredients

  • Eggs
  • Ice Water
  • Water

Equipment Needed

  • medium bowl for ice bath
  • medium pot

Instructions

  1. 1

Fill a pot with sufficient water to fully submerge the eggs and bring it to a rolling boil.

  2. 2

Gently place the eggs into the boiling water using a spoon, ladle, or tongs. Take care to lower them slowly to prevent any cracking.

  3. 3

Once the eggs are in the pot, start your timer. For a soft boiled egg with a runny yolk, cook the eggs for approximately 6 minutes. If you prefer a yolk that remains soft but isn't runny, aim for a cooking time of about 7 to 8 minutes.

  4. 4

When the timer signals, promptly use a slotted spoon or tongs to lift the eggs out of the boiling water.

  5. 5

Quickly transfer the eggs to a bowl filled with ice water. This will halt the cooking process and cool the eggs for easier handling and peeling.

  6. 6

Allow the eggs to rest in the ice water for a few minutes before you proceed to peel them.
