Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dry oregano
  • 2 tablespoons fresh basil
  • kosher salt
  • crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 small bay leaf
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 28 ounce can crushed tomatoes

Instructions

  1. 1

In a medium-sized saucepan or a deep frying pan, warm the olive oil over medium heat.

  2. 2

Introduce the minced garlic and sauté until it turns a golden hue, approximately 30 to 60 seconds, taking care to avoid burning it.

  3. 3

Incorporate the crushed tomatoes, along with salt, black pepper, oregano, crushed red pepper flakes (if desired), and the bay leaf. Mix well and lower the heat to a gentle simmer.

  4. 4

Place a lid on the pot and allow it to simmer for about 15 to 20 minutes.

  5. 5

Once done, take it off the heat and stir in the fresh basil.
