Ingredients

  • cooking spray
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 tablespoon dried marjoram
  • black pepper
  • 8 ounce can tomato sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon Hungarian paprika
  • 1 cup less sodium beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons raisins
  • 1 cup cooked brown rice
  • 1 medium head cabbage
  • 1 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 lb 93% lean ground beef

Instructions

  1. 1

Begin by selecting the sauté function on your Instant Pot. Lightly coat the bottom with oil, then introduce the ground beef along with salt. Cook the meat, breaking it into smaller pieces, until it achieves a browned color, which should take around 5 minutes. Next, incorporate the chopped onion, minced garlic, marjoram, and black pepper, stirring well to combine. Pour in the tomato sauce, paprika, beef broth, and raisins, then secure the lid and set to cook on high pressure for 15 minutes.

  2. 2

Once the cooking time is complete, perform a quick release of the pressure. Add in the rice and cabbage, then cover and cook on high pressure for an additional 3 minutes. Afterward, quickly release the pressure again and serve the dish with extra rice if you like.

  3. 3

For the stovetop method, heat a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Apply a spray of oil, then add the ground beef along with salt. Sauté, breaking the meat apart until it is browned, which should take about 5 minutes. Stir in the onion, garlic, marjoram, and black pepper. Then, add the tomato sauce, 1/4 cup of water, paprika, beef broth, and raisins. Cover with a lid and let it simmer on medium-low for 25 minutes.

  4. 4

After the cooking time, mix in the cooked rice and cabbage, allowing it to simmer for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the cabbage has softened. Serve with additional rice on the side if you prefer.
